3 Things you need to know about Guidelines for Referrals

The US Department of State released guidelines for referrals March 16, 2018.  Small World agrees with and complies in all regards with these guidelines for referrals.

To be matched with an official referral of a child for adoption internationally;

  1. All orphans must be certified by the central authority or other competent authority in the child’s country of origin as qualified for inter-country adoption.  This is to protect the child and the Prospective Adoptive Parents.
  2. All Prospective Adoptive Parents must be approved for adoption by a current homestudy AKA a Family Assessment before receiving a referral of a child.
  3. Small World only requests a hold on a child to be adopted that complies with all legal and ethical regulations of the child’s country of origin and US adoption authorities.
